No lift assisted riding for us
Bummer, Keystone is shut down basically until 8/8 for the new gondola installation. I was looking forward to riding out there on Saturday with Cynthia to work on her bridges and stuff.
I guess the next time we'll be on the DH bike is in a couple weeks when we all get out to Angel Fire to ride some BIG rocks and hit the South Boundary trail....can't wait for that weekend!
Oh well, guess we'll have to pedal this weekend. Maybe even get the singlespeeds out. Unfortunately Dan has to work all weekend but I'm hoping to drag Cynthia out with me at least one day.
And Dan and I may have a HUGE reason to celebrate...no mom we're not getting married (yet) and I'm not pregnant :)
Oh and I proved my point this morning about Wednesday's being the day to get out and ride your bike early in the morning. There were only a couple people out riding on my commute to work today. Pleasant....no bike jams!
Today's my Friday!!! YIPPEE!!! I took tomorrow off so Dan and I can enjoy a nice long ride somewhere....and I can enjoy a nice stiff margarita tonight.

What's Up With Wednesday's?
The bike lanes are crowded on Wednesdays....seems like Wednesday's are the days the once a week commuters ride in and the morning when all the roadies come out. Don't get me wrong, I like the fact that more people are commuting into work and leaving the cars at home. And I know it's going to be almost 100 this afternoon and the logical time to get out and do a roadie ride is in the morning.
I think it's when you mix the roadies and the commuters in together it becomes a little annoying. At every light there are at least 3 commuters and 2 roadies...this morning it was 4 commuters and 3 roadies (2 of them were a couple with the girly decked out completely in pink....her bike was pink, her helmet was pink, her shoes were pink, her saddlebag was pink, her kit was pink....I bet she even had pink lipstick on)....ummmm a little splash of pink is enough thank you.
Lights are the worst because as soon as the light turns green, there's a struggle to get in front, I usually lag back to watch everything unfold, the roadies are struggling to get their foot clipped in and not get passed and the commuters are just waiting for them to go away....some commuters (the racer commuter boys) are already 1/2 a mile ahead of everyone looking for the next person to overtake.
I always wonder why people race to work? And I wonder why it's so hard on some boys to get passed, especially by a girl, especially by a girl on a flat bar road bike with a rack and panniers, a girl decked out in non-roadie attire, no sponsorships to advertise on my back, a girl wearing a helmut that has a visor on it, a girl riding with full finger gloves, in baggies and mountain shoes. Does this make roadies mad? Or do they look at me and just think I'm a stupid commuter? Even the racer boy commuters hate it when a girl passes them, I know what happens...I catch them, I pass them, they see the rack & panniers, they see I'm a girl, then they're on my wheel again a few seconds later and they pass me. I see them pumping, I see them struggling, I can tell they're gasping for air...silly boys.
I'm kinda looking forward to the frigid temps of the winter, the traffic on the road will be down and the roadies will be inside on their rollers and the racer boy commuters will be in their cars driving to work. This is the time when the diehard commuters are out, no one in the bike lanes but us.

Life gets in the way
We decided to sleep in on Sunday and do a late evening ride when it cooled off since it was supposed to be almost 100 again. The house was a mess and hadn't been cleaned in over a month, same goes for the dog and we needed to go grocery shopping. We woke up and weren't even hungry for breakfast because it was already 80 outside, I tried logging into my email but for some reason my password didn't work and I eventually got locked out because I tried it too many times. I searched Hotmail for a phone number to call but to my surprise there's no number to call, everything has to be done online....so started the emails back and forth to their tech support. I'm still locked out today and now I have to prove I own the account :( Oh well, not that big of a deal. So I'm sorry if I haven't answered any emails...I'm working on it.
After we cleaned the house and washed to the dog and went grocery shopping, it was so darn hot that we both took naps. I lied in bed thinking about Jen and her dog Mushka that passed away last week and I couldn't imagine losing Patch and how hard it would be, eventually I fell asleep but I woke up sad. I think it was about 4pm when we finally rolled out of bed again and decided that we'd feel alot better if we headed up to West Mag for a lazy ride in the cooler temps. Fine with me!
I went downstairs to put some clothes in the dryer but for some reason the dryer wouldn't work. I told Dan and he pulled the thing apart and figured out what was wrong, he said that he could fix it but the same thing would keep happening. In the meantime, I searched the web to see how cheap we could get a brand spanking new dryer for....$279 from Home Depot. I then searched Craigslist and found an older one for $25 that was less than a mile away from where we live. It wasn't a hard decision to make so we hopped in the truck to get the used one.
After getting the dryer, cleaning it up and moving the old one, we decided we didn't really want to go ride anymore and that sitting on the couch and having a drink and a nice big salad and watching a movie sounded much more fun.
Sometimes not doing anything is okay, right?

South St Vrain 7/26/08
The usual suspect came out to play
All I have to say is this trail is HARD! Tough, tough technical rocky climbs everywhere with short, intense bursts of speed to get up and over the rocks. I was hurting! We didn't get as far as we wanted to because of some thunder and rain clouds but I was satisfied with our climb up and ready to start our way down.
A short lull in the intense action
Dan got sick of standing around for the girls to catch up so he decided to grab himself a chair
Nothing but rocks from here on out
Some bridges
More rocks
This section is super gnarly, steep with huge rocks. The entire section doesn't start here, it starts way before this and there is nothing, absolutely nothing easy about it.
Dan cleaned it
And much to my surprise...I cleaned it too! I went out ahead of everyone before hitting the entire section to get some pics, I had no idea if I'd be able to ride it but I just held on and let it roll and I did it!!
Jason giving it a go
Tracy handling a steep section
Cynthia nailing a techy section
It was an awesome day with great friends, tough climbing, awesome descending and a little blood.
I'm sore and tired and since it was almost 100 when we got back into Boulder, I took a nice not too hot bubble bath and Dan took a nap :)

Girls Day @ Keystone
I met Tracy up at Keystone today for a day of DH. We rode everything, including Helter Skelter...although I had to step off the bike at the first switchback. Maybe the next time I hit it, it won't look as steep.
We did 3 runs in a row, the last of the 3 we hooked up with 2 girls she knew from the Specialized Dealer thing going on at Copper. It was totally awesome to be able to ride with girls that can actually ride :) We rode Cowboy Up to Motorhead to TNT to Paid in Full to Wild Thing (personally my favorite run) and went in for a little lunch. After that Tracy and I did Cowboy Up to Motorhead to High Speed Dirt to Jam Rock (where I proceeded to crash twice) to East Forest. After that I had to call it a day because the 2 crashes wiped me out. I crashed on the bridge at Jam Rock, actually fell completely off of it because I wasn't in the right gear. I got back up, pushed up the trail a bit and nailed the bridge entry and proceeded to find a good line (finally!) through Jam Rock, then I proceeded to crash in the woods after the go-around to the Airplane Jump. Oh well, I haven't crashed in a while so I guess I was due.
Tracy on the other hand, nailed everything and didn't crash at all. Pretty damn impressive!
Anyway, I went ahead on Wild Thing and after the Triple Step I had to quickly get off my bike and get the camera out to get Tracy riding it. Needless to say the pics aren't that great but I got her cleaning the Triple Step.
Tracy's sequence pics are here. The girl riding after Tracy is Rachel, one of the girls we rode with from the Specialized dealer event.

Zosia's 3rd Birthday Party
After getting home late on Friday from Jeff & Alissa's wedding, we enjoyed the time to sleep in on Saturday :) We lazily ate breakfast and milked the morning all that we could before heading over to Dan's brother's house for his niece's 3rd birthday party.
Again, the ISO setting was set too high on my camera and the pics came out grainy.
Tomorrow I'm meeting Tracy out at Keystone for a girls day on the DH bikes :)

Friday no work, a ride and a wedding
Dan and I had a wedding to go to on Friday, since Dan doesn't work Friday's I decided to take the day off so we could sneak a ride in before going to the wedding.
We opted for Dakota Ridge
More pics here
Then we got cleaned up for Jeff & Alissa's wedding
I'm really really bummed about these pictures, apparently I had the ISO set too high on my camera and all the pictures turned out way too grainy :( Oh well, I'm still learning about my new camera.
The church was beautiful

Girls Tuesday Night Ride - West Mag
Tracy was the first to ride this obstacle, she rode up to it without hesitation and nailed it smoothly. Unfortunately she did it before any of us got the camera out :(

Saturday @ Keystone
What an awesome day at Keystone! The trails were dry, the bridges were dry and no one had any crashes. Can't ask for more! Tracy, Dan and myself met Dave and Cynthia at her house early Saturday morning to get up to Keystone bright and early to meet Jason and the rest of the Specialized reps for a day of riding. Guess Jason and his crew are up at Copper for a work thing for 2 weeks and they decided to come down to Keystone for a weekend of riding. Worked out just perfect if you ask me!
Jason, Blaze, Matt, Andy, Tracy, Cynthia, Dave, Dan & me
Isn't she cute!
Dan rockin' Fuzzy Bunny
Jason following Dan
Tracy on Milky Way
Dan hitting the Airplane Jump off of Jam Rock
Me on Eye of the Tiger
Me on the Triple Step on Wild Thing
Sorry Cynthia & Dave I didn't get any picture of you guys rockin' the trails. Dave rode amazing on his Intense 5.5, can't wait to see him on a bigger bike! And Cynthia road so awesome on her new Safire! She actually made it almost to the end of the rock garden on Cowboy Up but I think Dave blocked her line to finish :) We were all yelling & cheering her on and she would have cleaned the whole thing if Dave wasn't there....way to go Dave (just kiddin' of course).
Tracy cleaned the Corkscrew on East Forest and the bridge on Even Flow and didn't hesitate on the Triple Step on Wild Thing. That girl is on it and can hang just fine with the boys!
Can't wait to get out there again!
