Iditarod

If you don't know this already, the Iditarod is going on right now. This race is for the craziest of the crazies. If you don't follow her blog, well you should. She's actually been doing very well. She's been the first female rider at the check points, and at mile 165 she still was.

What's even crazier are the people going all the way to Nome at 1100 miles.

You can check out the latest new here and here

Go luck Jill! Unfortunately, it looks like her boyfriend Geoff had to scratch due to an injury.

Icy Roads

Okay, so we got less than an 1" of snow last night and since it was warm yesterday and temps dropped below freezing last night, the roads turned into ice....just a complete sheet of ice.

The plow trucks were out but just plowing the barely there snow....why can't they throw down some sand so there's just a wee bit of traction on the roads? Is there a shortage of sand out there?

The wuss is in the house

What can I say, I forgot how to ride today. We rode Devil's Backbone today, it was an amazing day in the 60's and the trail was dry but I rode horribly. We got the singles out with our friend Aaron and I attempted to follow them. I fell a bunch and got matching holes in my knee's.

At least Dan and Aaron had a better day.

A couple rare moments I was actually on my bike

Oh what a feeling!

To be back on the bike! My office is now cluttered with my bike and all my gear again. I had a couple restless hours last night contemplating my return to commuting and all the horrible things that could happen but when I woke up nothing seemed as horrible as it did last night. Unfortunately the CX bike is going to be out of commission for a while but I'm really liking the steel flat bar Bianchi road bike.

The morning commute even dried up my drippy nose....nothing like a cool crisp morning to get all the gunk out of your nose and chest.

Happens to the best of us

I thought I'd start commuting again this week but I woke up sick on Sunday morning and stayed home from work yesterday. Now I'm at work in a funk.....

But I was greated by this cute little guy this morning. He was snoozing in the sun by our office front door.

Slow week

Dan jinxed himself over the weekend...he made the comment that he hasn't been sick in over a year and guess what....he's home sick. HA! Probably got it while hanging out with me in the hospital on Friday. Good timing since the shop he works at is remodeling the store and there isn't too much to do. The Boulder store is turning into a fancy Trek concept store.

I hate emergency rooms, it's interesting listening to all the people but I got stuck next to a crazy homeless women who couldn't talk. All she did was make strange inhuman sounding outbursts and cry. She smelled really really bad also. I was also next to some girl who I think impaled her face on something skiing and needed surgery later that evening. She was talking and not bloody but I didn't get a real good look, can't be rude and gawk at the people as you're being wheeled by in your bed. Another guy had a broken foot and it's been broken since Thanksgiving....he complained to the nurse that he had to work and couldn't be off his foot and that he just needed drugs for the pain. She told him that she can't give him any drugs but could give him a prescription but he said he couldn't afford it right now. He asked again if she could hook him up and she just said sorry, we aren't drug dealers :) I thought that was pretty funny! She also told him that his bones would not heal together if he didn't stay off his feet....that prompted a big argument for about a half an hour until they decided to just give up and discharge him.

Hopefully next week the shoulder will be good enough to start riding in again. It's been too sensitive to wear my backpack. Dan converted the SS commuter into a geared bike so I can ride that while the CX is out of commission. I didn't want to struggle with shoulder pain on the SS so just decided to put gears on it. Luckily I can run without too much pain, which I've been doing all week at lunch. The only things that hurt doing really bad, like puke hurt bad...is lacing up my shoes and putting my sports bra on.

Emotions

It's funny how getting hit by a car doesn't scare me to be on the roads again riding my bike....it just depresses me. It's sad how caught up people get in their own lives and the things they have to do become more important than the safety of others.

Slow down and be considerate to others. Not that hard of a thing to do.
